The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of the weight of a person in relation to their height. It's defined as the individual's body weight divided by the square of their height.  For a given height, the BMI is proportional to weight.  For example, if an individual's weight increase by 50%, the BMI would also increase by 50%, provided the height remains the same.


Take in mind that the accuracy of the BMI is distorted by various factors such as fitness level, muscle mass, bone structure, gender and ethnicity. People with short stature also tend to gave a lower BMI.

BMI value above 25 = Overweight
